SCENE04 Design Final

Learn from the top teams' designs

In the design final, the top 5 teams in the design event plus Michigan University which was an invited team were judged. Mr. Ono from Tokyo R&D was invited as a special judge.

The event area is crowded with students with cameras and voice recorders, who came to learn from the top teams' designs. In the design final, members from the team who have designed different parts of the car give explanations using a microphone. The members show the panels that they have prepare for the event, prototype parts and models as well as the actual car.

Each team are given only 12 minutes, and Sophia Racing was the first team out of the six teams to give explanation. We have based our explanation on the explanation that we have given on the first design event. We explained about the concept of the car, chassis, power train, and aero-dynamics in 7 minutes. After that, we have accepted questions from the judges.

There was a feedback from the judge

CFD Analyze used by FLUENT
There were questions about adequacy of the frame rigidity and effectiveness of the performance damper, and we were able to give valid answers in a short time by showing backup of the experiments of the car, Analysis data from FEM and simulation, and by comparing models.

When all teams had finished their explanations, there was a feedback from the judge. The importance of choosing the right tires and designing the body with aero-dynamics on mind as well as designing each part were mentioned.

Trying hard for our next car

Sophia Racing had been putting those things that were mentioned into practice. We believe that we were ale to get this good result because we have given reasoning to the design of each part. We would like to keep on trying hard for our next car.
