History of Sophia Racing

Establishment

Sophia University first participated in Formula SAE in 2000, as one of the six Universities in 'Team Challenge Nippon', the joint team from Kantou Region of Japan Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, which was the first Asian team to participate in Formula SAE. The following year, Sophia University participated as a joint team with Kokushikan University and Nihon University.

Victory

On May 2001, Sophia Racing started off as an independent team for Sophia University, and on 2002 we have participated in Formula SAE as 'Sophia Racing' for the first time. On 2003, with the experience and techniques we gained in the three years, we were able to become first in Autocross and Acceleration event of the first Japanese Formula SAE Competition, and became first overall.

Improvement

We have kept on participating in American and Japanese Competitions, and by gaining knowledge and technologies through them, we are improving our car every year. In 2005, we have participated in the Formula SAE® Australasia which is said to have high standards, and became 12th overall.

This year, we plan to participate in Formula SAE® (US) and Formula SAE Japan.
